Giza pyramids tickets and prices

The pyramids cost less than most people expect, and a $12 tour costs more than its price tag says. Here is every ticket at Giza, and what you actually pay with each tour.

Foreign adults pay 700 EGP, about $13, to walk onto the Giza plateau in 2026. That one ticket gets you to the foot of all three pyramids, up to the Sphinx and out to the Panorama viewpoint. Going inside costs extra, and the gate takes cards only.

Tour prices on Viator start at $7 and climb to $185, and the cheap end is not what it looks like. Most from-prices between $12 and $40 buy a car and a guide, nothing else. Below are the official prices from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and its e-ticket portal, then what each tour's from-price covers, checked against the live listings in October 2026. We convert at about 55 EGP to the dollar.

The quick answer

The plateau ticket is 700 EGP (about $13) for foreign adults and 350 EGP for students, free under 6, cards only. The Great Pyramid interior is 1,500 EGP (about $27) on top, Khafre's interior a few hundred pounds, and Menkaure is closed. Most tours priced $12 to $40 cover only the car and guide, so add at least 700 EGP per person. The all-inclusive day tours at $155 to $185 include entry fees but still not the Great Pyramid.

How much is a ticket to the Giza pyramids in 2026?

700 EGP (about $13) for a foreign adult and 350 EGP for a foreign student with ID. Children under 6 go free.

The plateau ticket is the only one you must buy. Everything else is optional and sold on top. Prices for foreign visitors in October 2026:

The old Ministry page for the Great Pyramid still shows 1,000 EGP. It hasn't been updated: operators and 2026 visitors all report 1,500 EGP, and that is what you will pay. Khafre's price varies by source because it only just reopened. The GEM rise comes from the museum's own announcement, and the light show price from soundandlight.show.

What does the 700 EGP plateau ticket cover?

The outside of all three pyramids, the Sphinx viewing terrace through Khafre's Valley Temple, the Panorama viewpoint and the free electric shuttle buses.

  • Included: walking around the Great Pyramid, Khafre and Menkaure; the Panorama on the desert side; the Valley Temple of Khafre and the terrace beside the Sphinx; the shuttle loop between the visitor centre, Panorama, Menkaure, Khafre and the Sphinx.
  • Not included: any pyramid interior, the Tomb of Meresankh III, the Workers' Cemetery, camel and horse rides, and the Sound and Light show.
  • Not on the plateau any more: Khufu's solar boat. It moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which needs its own timed ticket.

Hours are 07:00 to last entry at 16:00 all year, and 08:00 to 15:30 in Ramadan, per the official e-ticket page. The plateau is big and car-free now. Without the shuttle, the walk from the Great Pyramid to the Sphinx and back to the gate is a long one in the sun.

Can you buy Giza tickets online, and can you pay cash?

Yes online, no cash. The official portal egymonuments.com sells timed e-tickets, and the gate has taken cards only since June 2023.

Giza went cashless in June 2023, as Egyptian Streets reported: Visa, Mastercard and Meeza work, Amex is hit and miss. Buy on egymonuments.com if you want the ticket in hand before you arrive. It is the Ministry's own site; anything else selling "official" tickets is a reseller.

On a tour that includes tickets, the guide normally buys them at the gate. One guest on the A1 Egypt tour found the guide asked them to pay by card and then "reimbursed us with cash after we entered." It happens because the gate wants a card. Ask your operator the night before how tickets are paid, so a cash refund doesn't surprise you.

What does a $12 to $40 Giza tour really include?

On most, only the car and guide. The plateau ticket, the Great Pyramid, the camel and lunch come in higher options or at the gate.

Here is what each from-price buys, and what the lowest option costs once you add the plateau ticket. The last column assumes one adult and no interior; add 1,500 EGP (about $27) for the Great Pyramid.

Two more things move the real price. Private tours price per person by group size, so the from-price usually assumes a bigger party than a couple; check the total for your group at checkout. And tips aren't included anywhere.

Which Giza tours include the entrance tickets?

The full-day tours from Let's Explore Egypt and Memphis Tours include entry fees. On the half-day tours, only the options named "Entry Fees" or "All inclusive" do.

Read the option name, not the tour title. "All-inclusive" in a Viator title usually describes the top option, while the from-price is the bottom one. Misk Tours has five options, and only those with "Entry Fees" in the name include the 700 EGP. The VIP Giza, Saqqara and Memphis day has a single option with entry to all three sites, lunch and a camel ride.

Check one more line: several options still promise entry to the "third pyramid". That is Menkaure, closed for maintenance on 11 September 2026. Ask the operator which interior you get now; Khafre is the open alternative. And if a guide tells you on the day that paid tickets aren't included, check the listing. One 1-star reviewer on an all-inclusive tour was told exactly that, and Viator later confirmed the tickets had been included all along.

Is the Great Pyramid ticket worth 1,500 EGP?

If you are fit and not claustrophobic, yes: it is the one interior people talk about for years. If you aren't, the outside is the main event and costs nothing extra.

For about $27 you climb a low, steep passage and the Grand Gallery to an empty granite chamber. It is hot, humid and over in 30 to 45 minutes. Khafre's interior costs a fraction of that and is easier on the back, though plainer. The full picture, including who should skip it, is in going inside the Great Pyramid.

Book it early in the day. Numbers are limited, and the queue and the heat inside both get worse after the tour groups arrive around 09:00.

Is the Cairo Pass worth it if you are visiting Giza?

Only if you will cram many sites into five days. It costs US$130 (students $70) in cash, and it doesn't cover the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Cairo Pass runs for five consecutive days and covers the sites on the Giza plateau, Saqqara, Dahshur, the Citadel and the historic Cairo museums. You pay in clean US dollar or euro notes and bring a passport copy and photos; it is sold at the Giza plateau and the Citadel. $130 is about 7,150 EGP at today's rate.

Do the sum. Giza (700) plus the Great Pyramid (1,500) plus Saqqara's inclusive ticket (1,400) and Dahshur (200) comes to 3,800 EGP. You need the Citadel, several museums and more interiors on top to break even. Whether it covers the Great Pyramid interior isn't confirmed in an official source, so ask at the ticket office before you rely on it.

How much should you budget for a day at the pyramids?

Self-guided, about 700 EGP plus a 150 to 300 EGP ride each way. With a budget guide, add $12 to $40 and tips. A camel ride is 500 to 1,000 EGP more.

  • Tickets: 700 EGP, plus 1,500 EGP for the Great Pyramid if you go in.
  • Getting there: Uber, Careem or inDrive from downtown run about 150 to 300 EGP each way; see Giza without a tour.
  • Camel or horse: negotiated, typically 500 to 1,000 EGP for 30 to 60 minutes. The tricks are in the camel ride guide.
  • Food and water: there are cafés at the visitor centre and Panorama; bring a refillable bottle anyway.
  • Tips: carry small Egyptian notes for your guide, driver, camel handler and toilet attendants. Cards don't help here.
  • Evening: the Sound and Light show is $20 when it runs. It has been on and off since 2025: see the show's current status.

Frequently asked questions

Do children pay at the Giza pyramids?

Children under 6 enter free. Older children pay the foreign ticket; students with a valid ID (age 24 or under) pay half, 350 EGP. On tours, Viator's child rates apply to the tour price only.

Can I pay for Giza tickets in dollars?

No. The ticket office takes cards only (Visa, Mastercard, Meeza), charged in Egyptian pounds. The exception is the Cairo Pass, which is paid in US dollar or euro notes.

Is the shuttle bus extra?

No. The electric shuttle that loops between the visitor centre, the Panorama, the pyramids and the Sphinx is included in the 700 EGP plateau ticket.

Can I still go inside the third pyramid?

Not now. Menkaure closed for maintenance on 11 September 2026 and Khafre reopened in its place. If your tour option says "third pyramid", ask the operator which interior you will enter.
