The Sound and Light Show, if it's on

EMO Tours Egypt picks you up at your hotel, hands you a ticket and seats you facing the floodlit Sphinx and pyramids while the Sphinx narrates the story of the pharaohs. Book it for the night view and the photos, and only once you've checked the show is running on your date.

Sound and Light Show at the Giza Pyramids

About this experience

The Sound and Light Show has played at Giza for decades. You sit in an open-air theatre on the Sphinx side of the plateau, at Nazlet el-Semman, while coloured floodlights and lasers pick out the Sphinx, Khafre and Khufu, and a recorded voice of the Sphinx tells the story. It lasts about 50 to 60 minutes. The official ticket is US$20 (child 6 to 12 $11, VIP $26), in ten languages. A second show of the night only runs with at least five tickets.

This listing charges $55: the ticket, hotel pickup and drop-off with a guide, and taxes. That makes roughly $35 for the evening transfer, a fair price for a private car through rush-hour Cairo if you have no other way back. Free cancellation runs to 24 hours before.

The 3.4 rating from 167 reviews has two clear causes. First, cancellations: the show has run on a reduced, changing schedule since 2025 while Orascom redevelops it, and recent one-star reviews describe shows suspended two hours ahead, a no-show pickup and slow refunds. In October 2026 the show was reported suspended again, and on 22 October the official booking button for the Pyramids show was switched off. Second, the show itself: reviewers call it dated, the narration theatrical, and the lights cut abruptly at the end. The praise goes to the pickup, the guides and the night photos. Check soundandlight.show before you book, and again on the day.

What guests say

★★★★★

My guide, Hamad, from Emo tours was pleasant and helpful. He got me there safely, making sure I knew where to go and was waiting outside to take me home. The pyramids looked great under lights.

Geraldine · Apr 2024
★★★★★

Nice show while the sound could be improved a little. The pickup and drop-off went seamlessly.

Karan · Nov 2023

Great location - the perfect view! Well worth going! Some more modern sound equipment, an updated script and the latest in lasers would put it over the top. Viator logistics and employees were great

Tips before you book

  • Check soundandlight.show before booking. If the Pyramids show can't be booked there, don't book it here.
  • Message EMO Tours on the morning of the show to confirm it is running.
  • Have your camera ready before the end. The lights switch off abruptly, one reviewer warned.
  • Bring a light jacket from November to February. Evenings in the desert get cool.
  • Decline any shop detour before the show. A 2024 guest lost the sunset view to a jewellery shop.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Giza Sound and Light Show running in 2026?

Not reliably. It has run on a reduced, changing schedule during redevelopment since 2025 and was reported suspended in October 2026. Check soundandlight.show and message the operator before you go.

How much is the show ticket on its own?

US$20 for adults, $11 for children 6 to 12 and $26 for VIP seats, at the official price. This tour charges $55 with the ticket and hotel pickup.

Why is the rating 3.4?

Most one-star reviews are cancellations (shows suspended on the day) and slow refunds. Others find the show dated. The pickup and the night photos get good marks.

What happens if the show is cancelled?

Reviewers were refunded, some quickly and some only after chasing. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before; if the operator cancels, claim through Viator.
