GEM Explore Egypt · Giza plateau

A half day at the pyramids with GEM Explore Egypt

A private guide and driver take you to the Giza pyramids, the Panorama and the Sphinx in four to five hours, with options that add tickets, a camel, lunch or a full day with the Grand Egyptian Museum. Pick it for the full-day GEM upgrade: reviewers who switched say it was the right call.

Half-Day Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, Private Tour

About this experience

GEM Explore Egypt's half day follows the same route as most private Giza tours: the visitor centre, the Great Pyramid and Khafre, a drive past Menkaure, the Panorama viewpoint and the Sphinx terrace. The difference is in the details reviewers mention: guides who know the photo angles, a cold van, and a guide who in one October 2026 review turned out to be an archaeologist working at Giza.

The $40 from-price is "Car+Guide Only". On that option you pay the 700 EGP (about $13) plateau ticket yourself, by card. "Car+Guide+Entry Fees" adds the ticket; the next options add a camel ride, then a camel and lunch, and "All Inc. Pyramids+Gem Full Tour" makes it a full day with the Grand Egyptian Museum. The listing is clear that the Great Pyramid interior costs 1,500 EGP (about $27) extra, and that pickup at the airport, Nasr City or Heliopolis adds $15 per person.

Not every guide lands. A one-star review from October 2026 called the tour "a taxi service": a guide who said little and left the group to walk alone after the shuttle bus. It is the exception in a 4.9 average from 2,536 reviews, but if history matters more to you than photos, say so when the guide messages you. Shops are listed as optional; guests describe cartouche, perfume and papyrus stops they could refuse.

  • Private guide and driver, 4.9 from 2,536 reviews
  • A full-day option with the Grand Egyptian Museum
  • Clear listing: the Great Pyramid's 1,500 EGP is spelled out
  • Shop stops listed as optional and skippable
  • Panorama and Sphinx terrace on every option

What guests say

★★★★★

He was very flexible and allowed us to choose what we wanted to see including the sphinx, all three pyramids, and the inside of one of the queen's pyramids. [...] They gave us the option to say no to visiting these places but we were curious so we went.

★★★★★

I upgraded last minute to the full tour with the Grand Egyptian Museum instead of a half day and it is worth it.

Lia · Oct 2026
★★★★★

We were picked up at 7:30am and would suggest to do this to avoid the heat and the crowds.

Laura · Oct 2026
★★★★★

We got to see the main sights in good proximity and traveled by bus with the complex, which was very easy.

Tips before you book

  • The queens' pyramids beside Khufu are a cheaper, shorter way to see a pyramid interior. One guest's guide took them into one.
  • Want the museum too? Book the full-day option and do the GEM in the afternoon heat, as a reviewer suggested.
  • Tell the guide what you came for when they message you: history, photos, or both.
  • Shops are optional. Say no in the car if you'd rather have more time on the plateau.
