Giza, Saqqara and Memphis with an Egyptologist

A private Egyptologist and driver for the three great sites south of Cairo: the Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara, and the Ramesses colossus and alabaster sphinx at Memphis. Pick it for a full day at your own pace for a fraction of the all-inclusive price.

Giza, Saqqara and Memphis with an Egyptologist

About this experience

This is the same route as the VIP day with Saqqara, priced the other way round. The $50 option, "Private A/C + Egyptologist", buys an air-conditioned car, the driver, the Egyptologist and mineral water for about eight hours. You pay the entries yourself: Giza 700 EGP, Saqqara 600 EGP and Memphis about 200 EGP, about 1,500 EGP (about $27) per adult. The "All Inclusive" option bundles those tickets, and reviewers describe a lunch they hadn't expected.

The day runs about four hours at Giza, three at Saqqara and an hour at Memphis, with the order shuffled to beat the crowds and the 4 p.m. closing at Saqqara. One October 2026 guest's guide moved things around so they reached Saqqara "before the entrance to the pyramid closed". Inside Djoser's pyramid costs 280 EGP and the Serapeum 340 EGP, both on top. The Great Pyramid interior is 1,500 EGP (about $27) extra on either option.

It is a small listing (160 reviews) with a perfect 5.0 and the same names over and over: the guide Hamad, the driver Abdullah. Reviews mention a papyrus shop, with no pressure to buy. The listing warns it isn't suited to travellers with back problems: Saqqara's tombs mean low passages. Our Saqqara and Memphis guide has the full route and ticket table.

What guests say

★★★★★

We ended up changing the order of things a little bit to make sure we made it to saqqara before the entrance to the pyramid closed. We liked that Ahmed put a lot of thought into the order of the day and moved things around so we got to do everything we wanted.

Perfect organization; my wife and I took the tour alone in the company of a friendly and knowledgeable doctor of Egyptology.

Tips before you book

  • Do the sums before you choose. On the $50 option, about 1,500 EGP of tickets per adult takes it to roughly $77.
  • From May to September, go early. A July 2025 reviewer had 103 F (about 39 C) and was glad the car was always cold.
  • Decide on the extras at Saqqara (Djoser interior 280 EGP, Serapeum 340 EGP) before you arrive, so the guide can plan the time.
  • Bring a Visa or Mastercard. Giza and Saqqara are card only.
